Moscow, Sept 9 (Sputnik/UNI) The European union has condemned strikes by Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, on Saudi Arabia and called on the movement to halt them, European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said.

"The European union strongly condemns the latest Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, which targeted civilian and economic infrastructure in the south of the country and injured 73 civilians, including women and children," El Anouni said in a statement on Tuesday. He added that Brussels calls for an immediate end to the attacks. "We call on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks inside and outside Yemen, including attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, and comply with UNSC Resolutions 2722 (2024) and 2826 (2026)," El Anouni noted.

The EU also expresses solidarity with Saudi Arabia and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, he said. The confrontation between Saudi Arabia and the Ansar Allah movement escalated in July following a strike on the airport in Houthi-controlled Sanaa. The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for the attack and announced retaliatory strikes on Saudi facilities, including Abha Airport. Saudi Arabia, in turn, resumed strikes on areas of Yemen controlled by the movement.

On Tuesday morning, the Saudi Energy Ministry said that the kingdom's energy facilities in southern settlements had been attacked from Yemen. Fires broke out at several sites, and production operations were partially suspended.
