Relief measures against cold wave in UP 1,247 night shelters operational

Lucknow, Dec 27 (UNI) In view of the prevailing severe cold wave and dense fog, the Uttar Pradesh government has made comprehensive arrangements to provide relief for the people, particularly vulnerable sections. Officials on Saturday said 1,247-night shelters have so far been set up across the state in which 9,949 needy people have taken shelter.
Besides, bonfires, and blanket distribution arrangements have been activated in all districts of the state. The state government has told officials to carry out relief work with sensitivity.
District administrations have been instructed to ensure proper arrangements for cleanliness, hot water, lighting, and security in the night shelters.
The state government has given priority to blanket distribution to protect against the cold wave. On average, more than 10 lakh blankets have been purchased with a cost of over Rs 44 crore. So far, more than 1.40 lakh blankets have been distributed to the needy in all districts.
Extensive arrangements have also been made for lighting bonfires in public places to protect against the cold. The status of bonfires being lit daily in the districts is being regularly updated on the relief portal, ensuring continuous monitoring at the government level.
The government is also making extensive use of technology to prevent accidents caused by fog. The Relief Commissioner's office has issued 33.27 crore 'alert' SMS messages so far through the Sachet app and web portal.
